POWERTEC Dust Collector Review: 1 HP Portable and Wall Mount
POWERTEC sells two 1 HP, 560 CFM dust collectors on Amazon, a portable (DC5372, about $288) and a wall mount (DC5371, about $282). Both use a 1 micron bag, which is finer than the 5 micron bags on most budget collectors. The brand also sells much of the small shop hardware that turns up in Amazon results for this topic: blast gates, reducers, Y fittings, hose and clamps.
I have not tested these collectors. The specs below come from the Amazon listings, and I mark them that way. Rated CFM is the maker's figure with an open inlet, and a hose takes much of it away.
POWERTEC 1 HP collectors compared
| Model | Motor | Listed CFM | Filter | Weight | Price |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| DC5372 portable | 1 HP induction, 120/240 V, 12 A at 120 V | 560 | 1 micron bag with window | 43.6 lb | $288 |
| DC5371 wall mount | 1 HP induction, 120/240 V, 12 A at 120 V | 560 | 1 micron bag with window | not listed | $282 |
Source: Amazon listings for the DC5372 and DC5371, read on 2026-10-24. The wall mount listing gives a noise level of 80 dB. Prices are what Amazon showed on October 22 to 24, 2026.
What the listings say
Both units have a 1 HP induction motor that turns at 3,450 RPM and runs on 120 or 240 volts, drawing 12 amps at 120 and 6 amps at 240. Both take a 4 inch inlet. The inlet has a built-in grate that keeps large debris from hitting the impeller, and the listing tells you to take the hose off now and then and clear any debris that collects around that port. That is useful advice, since a clogged grate is a common cause of weak suction.
The bag is the selling point. A 1 micron felt bag has a window to see the dust level and a zipper for emptying. My page on 1 micron vs 5 micron bags explains why 1 micron matters: the finest dust is the part that hangs in the air and gets into your lungs. POWERTEC says its Vortex Base design cuts turbulence and improves dust removal by up to 10 percent over a comparable model. I have no way to check that figure.
Portable or wall mount
The DC5372 rolls on casters and weighs 43.6 pounds. Use it if you move one collector between a bandsaw, a jointer and a router table. The DC5371 hangs on a bracket, takes no floor space, and sits close to one or two machines. If your garage holds a car, the wall unit is easier to live with. My wall mounted dust collector roundup compares more of them, and the portable list covers the rolling kind.
Both listings show 4.4 stars from about 496 ratings. That count is shared across the model variants on the listing, so it is not a count for one unit. Read the recent reviews on the exact model you plan to buy.
Is 1 HP enough?
A 1 HP collector handles one machine at a time on a short hose. A table saw or planer on a long run needs more. Read my 1 HP vs 2 HP dust collector comparison before you decide. A 560 CFM rating is a maximum. At the end of a hose with a gate and an elbow, you should expect much less. For a router table, a bandsaw or a drill press, 1 HP is fine.
The POWERTEC parts that sell best
POWERTEC fittings turn up first in Amazon searches for dust collection parts, mostly because they are cheap and widely sold. Several of them sell in the hundreds per month: the 4 inch blast gate (about $9, 2,000 ratings), the 4 inch Y fitting (about $12, 2,400 ratings) and the 4 to 2.5 inch reducer with a flex cuff (about $13, 800 ratings). They are plastic, and a plastic gate can leak a little. My best blast gates page compares plastic and metal. For a first duct run, the cheap parts work.

Where POWERTEC falls short
- One size of motor. Both collectors are 1 HP. If you need 2 HP, look at the 2 HP picks.
- No separator. Chips go to the bag. A separator ahead of it keeps a small bag from filling fast.
- Plastic parts. The cheap gates and fittings leak more than metal ones. Seal joints with foil tape.
- Shared review counts. The 496 ratings cover several variants, so the number tells you less about one model.
For a full plan, use my small shop dust collection guide. To size the collector, use the CFM calculator. For comparison, read the WEN dust collector review and the under $500 collector list.
FAQ
Is the POWERTEC dust collector good?
It is a reasonable 1 HP unit for one machine at a time. The listing gives a 1 micron bag, an induction motor and 560 CFM, and shows 4.4 stars from about 496 ratings across variants.
Does the POWERTEC collector run on 120 volts?
Yes. The listing says it runs on 120 or 240 volts, drawing 12 amps at 120 and 6 amps at 240.
Can a 1 HP collector run a table saw?
It can, on a short 4 inch hose and a saw with a clean port. A long run or a big planer needs 2 HP.
Are POWERTEC blast gates any good?
They are cheap and fit well enough for a small shop. A plastic gate can leak a little, so seal the joints and check each gate closes fully.
